HERO PROFILE

Background Story

I will never forget the time I spent with my friend Leia. Those were the best days of my short life. In spring we wandered through the forests, in summer we swam in the oceans, in autumn we lay on fallen leaves, and in winter we built snowmen. We've always been together, like Siamese twins. We had no secrets from each other. Time changes everything, but I was sure that our friendship was beyond his control. Rastport is a terrible place, and we had to fight for our lives every day. There was deception, cruelty, bloodshed and crimes everywhere. Who would have thought that I would find my love there… Yes, that's where I met him… His name was Haarman. He was a sailor and spent most of his time at sea. I met him in a tavern. He told all sorts of sea stories that stirred my imagination. Falling in love overwhelmed me, and every day I told Leia everything to the last. How strong he was, how gentle... but love blinded me. Bathed in sweet words, I didn't notice anything. The three of us were walking together, and I remember Leia behaved strangely: she hardly answered me and kept staring at Haarman. One night, late at night, Leia came to me. I let her in, and then she said: "Desira, I'm pregnant..." I remember her stroking her rounded belly as she said this. She was clearly embarrassed, but she had a whole range of emotions on her face: from the modesty of a young girl to the sincere care worthy of the Goddess herself. I was happy for my friend, but she suddenly stopped talking. The cats were scratching at my soul. The silence dragged on, and then it dawned on me… "Who is the father?" — I tried to speak with restraint, but my voice still trembled. Frowning slightly, Leia straightened up: "Haarman… He told me not to tell you anything, but I decided it would be wrong to hide it.… Desira! — she rushed to me and took me in her arms. Her eyes were wide open. — He... Haarman never loved you, he loves me!" That night it was hot, but it felt like I was doused with ice water. Leia, my childhood friend, the only soul with whom I shared everything, the one who was dearer to me than all others, betrayed me and conspired with my lover to hide the terrible truth! "No, not you, Leia... Let anyone deceive me... not you! Blinded by rage, I started throwing everything at her that came to hand, aiming at her stomach. Feelings overwhelmed me. Distraught, I wanted any evidence of treason to disappear. I cornered Leia, where she fought off my projectiles. Little by little I began to cool down, but suddenly— perhaps to protect myself, or maybe for some other reason - a friend attacked me, and we got into a fight. No one knows exactly what happened, who was the first to grab a weapon, and whether one was going to kill the other. I came to my senses only when I felt terrible pain. A friend with bloodshot eyes was shredding my body. "Leia..." I whispered before giving up the ghost. She shuddered and dropped the axe from her hands. "No… Oh no… What have I done..."— her eyes widened in surprise. She covered her face with her bloody hands, helpless and innocent as ever. "Haarman, Haarman!" she screamed and, turning around, ran out of my house. The wind outside the window intensified, a thunderstorm began with thunder and lightning, and I was still lying in a pool of blood on the floor. I was on the verge of death, and tears were streaming down my face. The two people I loved the most in the world were going to dump my body into the ocean and live happily ever after, as if I was just an ugly speck in their lives. Disgusting. How disgustingly naive I was. It's disgusting that the people I loved don't care about me. If only… The voices echoing in my soul feed my anger. My eyes open and I come back and a dark void. The waters of the ocean wash over my body and purify me. My spine stretches, turning into a fish tail. My bitter tears become precious white pearls. "From now on, you are neither alive nor dead anymore, but you will become stronger than you ever were. As you wished..." "Leia, Haarman... now I can find them!" "Take your time. One day you'll meet them, and then you can do whatever you want with them. Welcome to Bantus." Someone giggled. It was Lord Quaidam. Rage is my greatest weapon. Since my return, I have been serving Lord Quaidam and protecting Screaming Bay from intruders. I can cause a terrible fog in which any sailor or invader will go astray. Every ship is full of sailors. Each of them is a Haarman. They are all traitors! Yes, I didn't expect him to be stupid enough to go to the realm of the grave-born, and yet that's what he did. He sailed here in search of treasure. His ship was called the Undead. Oh, this Haarman — as soon as he saw me, his soul sank into his heels. He even jumped overboard, hoping to drown, but I pulled him out again and again, enjoying his torment. "What's up with Leia? Where are you hiding it?" her name brought back warm memories of her friend, and my voice softened. "She... she… I do not know..." his lips were trembling, and he could not say anything more. Looking at him, I couldn't help laughing. I burst out laughing, exposing my sharp teeth: "Look, Leia! And you stole this worm from me!" The rotten port city is full of sailors who are looking for quick pleasures before disappearing into the sea again. They deceive the hopes of many naive women who are all waiting for them to keep their promises. I'll never forget it, and neither will Leia. We both paid dearly for this man's whim, and he lives for himself as if nothing had happened. I reached out and ran my finger over his eyebrows, touched the tip of his nose and drew a line further, to the throat. "My dear Haarman, when you come back, give her my regards." I saw animal horror in his eyes, and I was having fun. My insane laughter echoed all over the bay… Even in my dreams, I have the feeling that I am being skinned, despite the fact that the grave-born should not dream or feel anything, including pain. The unknown ship came too close. The sea is covered with thick fog. I emerge from the depths of the sea and blow a horn from the carved and twisted spine of some heartless man. "My sisters, I will take revenge!"
